Signs of Cold Temperatures in Sweetgum
Symptoms
Sweetgum tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures are above 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 20℉, while no immediate winter changes might be seen, branches can become fragile and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of High Temperatures in Sweetgum
Symptoms
During summer, Sweetgum should be maintained below 80℉. When temperatures go above 90℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Cut off the sun-damaged and dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric to provide cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
