Signs of Cold Stress in Garden lettuce
Symptoms
Garden lettuce tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 60℉ and 70℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 45℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, foliage may darken. Extreme cold can lead to water-soaked decay, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of the leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm spot or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. If moved indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Garden lettuce
Symptoms
In summer, Garden lettuce should be maintained below 70℉. When temperatures surpass 75℉, plant development slows, leaf coloration fades, and susceptibility to sun damage increases.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched or dried-out sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the afternoon sun. Water the plant during morning and evening hours to maintain soil moisture.
