Signs of Cold Stress in Star anise
Symptoms
Star anise exhibits moderate resilience to cold and flourishes optimally within a temperature range of 65℉ to 75℉. Throughout winter, temperatures should remain above 50℉. Should the temperature drop below 32℉, foliage may darken. In extreme instances, water-soaked tissue death, wilting, and drooping can occur, with leaves progressively turning brown.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection against cold. When bringing the plant inside, select a spot near a south-facing window to ensure adequate sunlight. If light is insufficient, consider using supplementary illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Star anise
Symptoms
In summer, Star anise should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, plant development decelerates, leaf coloration lightens, and susceptibility to sunburn increases.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the afternoon sun. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
