Signs of Cold Stress in Yaupon
Symptoms
Yaupon tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 32℉, its foliage might begin to sag. Minor cases can lead to recovery, but severe instances will cause leaves to wilt and eventually shed.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before subsequent exposure to cold, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or burlap, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Yaupon
Symptoms
In summer, Yaupon should be kept below 80℉. When temperatures rise above 90℉, the leaves' hue lightens, leaf tips might dry and shrivel, leaves could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
