Signs of Cold Stress in Japanese holly
Symptoms
Japanese holly tolerates cold moderately and grows best above 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. Below 32℉, leaves may sag. Mild cases recover, but severe cases lead to wilting and leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections. Before further cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Japanese holly
Symptoms
In summer, Japanese holly needs temperatures below 75℉. Above 85℉, leaves lighten, tips dry and shrivel, leaves curl, and the plant is more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off any sunburned or dried areas. Relocate the plant to a spot shaded from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
