Signs of Cold Stress in Jerusalem artichoke
Symptoms
Jerusalem artichoke exhibits moderate cold tolerance, flourishing optimally between 59℉ and 77℉. In winter, temperatures should remain above 41℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked tissue death, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Jerusalem artichoke
Symptoms
In summer, Jerusalem artichoke should be maintained below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant development slows, leaf coloration lightens, and susceptibility to sun damage increases.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched or desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the afternoon sun. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
