Signs of Cold Stress in Velvet ash
Symptoms
Velvet ash tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 40℉. If temperatures drop below 20℉, even without immediate winter damage, branches might become brittle and dry by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Velvet ash
Symptoms
In summer, Velvet ash should be maintained below 80℉. When temperatures surpass 100℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, their tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
