Signs of Cold Stress in Carolina buckthorn
Symptoms
Carolina buckthorn tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures are above 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 30℉, while no immediate changes might be visible in winter, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Carolina buckthorn
Symptoms
During summer, Carolina buckthorn should be kept below 80℉. When temperatures exceed 90℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in color, tips might dry and wither, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any sunburned and dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
