Signs of Cold Stress in Globe artichoke
Symptoms
Globe artichoke tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 65℉ and 75℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 59℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked tissue death, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of the leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. If natural light is insufficient, provide additional illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Globe artichoke
Symptoms
In summer, Globe artichoke should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant development slows, leaf color fades, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the afternoon sun. Water the plant during the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
