Signs of Cold Stress in Cardoon
Symptoms
Cardoon tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 65℉ and 77℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 41℉, leaves may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked decay, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of foliage.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate indoors to a warm spot or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection. When indoors, position near a south-facing window for adequate light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Cardoon
Symptoms
In summer, Cardoon should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant growth slows, leaf color lightens, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any sunburned or dried-out portions. Move the plant to an area offering protection from the afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
