Signs of Cold Stress in Cultivated endive
Symptoms
Cultivated endive tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 60℉ and 75℉. In colder months, temperatures should not drop below 50℉. If the temperature falls below 40℉, foliage may darken. Extreme cold can lead to water-soaked tissue death, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of the leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm area or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. If natural light is insufficient, provide artificial illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Cultivated endive
Symptoms
In summer, Cultivated endive should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, plant development slows, leaf coloration fades, and susceptibility to sun damage increases.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
