Signs of Cold Stress in Chilean cestrum
Symptoms
Chilean cestrum tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 65℉. Throughout the winter, it needs to be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 32℉, its foliage might begin to sag. In minor instances, recovery is possible, but severe cases lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before subsequent exposure to cold, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from chilly gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chilean cestrum
Symptoms
In summer, Chilean cestrum should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the foliage lightens in color, leaf tips may dry and shrivel, leaves might curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Cut off any parts that are sunburned and desiccated. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth to provide cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
