Signs of Cold Temperatures in Northern catalpa
Symptoms
Northern catalpa tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, temperatures should remain above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become fragile and dry by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of High Temperatures in Northern catalpa
Symptoms
During summer, Northern catalpa should be maintained below 85℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
