Signs of Cold Exposure in Chinese catalpa
Symptoms
Chinese catalpa tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 59℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 41℉, while no immediate winter damage may be apparent, branches can become brittle and desiccated by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chinese catalpa
Symptoms
During summer, Chinese catalpa should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 86℉, the plant's leaves may lighten in hue, their tips may dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade fabric to provide cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
