Signs of Cold Temperatures in Shagbark hickory
Symptoms
Shagbark hickory tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures are above 65℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, even if no immediate changes are seen in winter, branches might become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Hot Temperatures in Shagbark hickory
Symptoms
In summer, Shagbark hickory should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures go above 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in color, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and dried sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to keep the soil damp.
