Signs of Cold Stress in Safflower
Symptoms
Safflower tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures exceed 64℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 59℉. If temperatures drop below 41℉, while no immediate winter damage may be apparent, spring sprouting could be reduced or absent.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not sprouted.
Signs of Heat Stress in Safflower
Symptoms
During summer, Safflower should be maintained below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, curl, become prone to sunburn, and in severe cases, the entire plant might wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to ensure soil moisture.
