Signs of Cold Stress in Buffalo grass
Symptoms
Buffalo grass tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 75℉. In winter, it should be maintained above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, foliage may begin to sag. Minor cases allow recovery, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove sections damaged by frost. Before subsequent cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and erect a windbreak to shield it from chilling gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Buffalo grass
Symptoms
In summer, Buffalo grass should be kept below 85℉. When temperatures surpass 100℉, leaf coloration lightens, leaf tips might dry and shrivel, leaves may curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
