Signs of Cold Stress in Paper birch
Symptoms
Paper birch exhibits exceptional cold hardiness, but winter temperatures should ideally remain above 40℉. Should the temperature fall below this point, while no immediate changes might be apparent in winter, branches could become fragile and desiccated by spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
During spring, remove any lifeless branches that have not developed new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Paper birch
Symptoms
Paper birch does not fare well in high temperatures. When the temperature surpasses 70℉, it might experience considerable leaf shedding, and in extreme instances, the entire plant could wilt and perish.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and dried-out sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or utilize a shade cloth to provide cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
