Signs of Cold Stress in Chard
Symptoms
Chard tolerates cool conditions moderately well, flourishing optimally between 60℉ and 75℉. In winter, temperatures should remain above 50℉. Below 40℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked decay, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any frost-damaged sections. Promptly relocate the plant to a warm indoor setting or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection. Indoors, position it near a south-facing window for ample light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is inadequate.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chard
Symptoms
In summer, Chard should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, plant development slows, leaf color fades, and susceptibility to sunburn increases.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the afternoon sun. Water the plant during morning and evening hours to maintain soil moisture.
