Signs of Cold Stress in Malabar spinach
Symptoms
Malabar spinach tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 77℉ and 86℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked necrosis, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm spot or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. Supplement with artificial lighting if natural light is insufficient.
Signs of Heat Stress in Malabar spinach
Symptoms
In summer, Malabar spinach should be maintained below 86℉. When temperatures surpass 95℉, plant growth decelerates, leaf color fades, and susceptibility to sunburn increases.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to an area offering shade from the afternoon sun. Water the plant during the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
