Signs of Cold Stress in Onion
Symptoms
Onion tolerates cool temperatures moderately well, flourishing optimally between 50℉ and 75℉. In colder months, maintain temperatures above 32℉. If temperatures drop below 20℉, foliage may darken. Severe cases can lead to water-soaked decay, wilting, drooping, and a gradual browning of leaves.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Promptly relocate the plant indoors to a warm area or construct a temporary greenhouse for protection from cold. When indoors, position it near a south-facing window for adequate light. If natural light is insufficient, provide supplementary illumination.
Signs of Heat Stress in Onion
Symptoms
In summer, Onion should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 90℉, plant development slows, leaf color fades, and it becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-scorched or dried-out sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering shade from the afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
