Signs of Cold Stress in Silver fir
Symptoms
Silver fir tolerates cold moderately and flourishes best above 45℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 35℉. Below 25℉, leaves may sag. Mild cases recover, but severe cases lead to wilting and leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove frost-damaged sections. Before further cold, cover the plant with non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Silver fir
Symptoms
In summer, Silver fir should stay below 65℉. Above 75℉, leaves lighten, tips dry and wither, leaves curl, and the plant is more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Cut off sunburned and dried areas. Relocate the plant to a spot shaded from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant mornings and evenings to keep the soil damp.
